Primary Dr. Montessori felt that the goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate his own natural desire to learn rather than filling the child with facts from a pre-selected course of studies. First, each child is allowed to experience the excitement of learning by his own choice rather than by being forced, and secondly, teachers help the child perfect all his natural tools for learning, so that his or her ability will be at a maximum in future learning situations.
The Montessori classroom is geared to the size, space and interests of boys and girls between the ages of three and six. It is designed to put the child at ease by giving him freedom in an environment prepared with attractive materials. These materials are arranged on low shelves within easy reach of even the smallest youngster.
Elementary The elementary program expands upon the principles that began in the primary program. The main goal of the program is to help each child reach his or her full potential in all areas of life. Children do not learn by rote memorization, but rather by cognitive and sensorial means. The elementary classroom is a warm, inviting atmosphere that allows the child to experience the joy of learning.
