The "whole child" approach makes Montessori education unique.
The primary goal of a Montessori program is to help each child reach his or her full potential in all areas of life. Activities promote the development of social skills, emotional growth and physical coordination, as well as cognitive preparation.
The "prepared environment" ensures the development of self-esteem and provides the experiences from which children create their knowledge.
Maria Montessori felt that the goal of early childhood education should not be to fill the child's head with facts, but rather "to cultivate a natural desire to learn."
